SHOWS SHOW DATES AUDITION DATES

Auditions:: August 22 & 23, 2008

Auditions will be held Friday, August 22, 5PM-8PM or Saturday, August 23,10AM-1PM; no scheduled auditions; first come, first served. Participants must arrive on Friday between 5PM-6:30PM, and between 10AM-12PM on Saturday to be considered for a role. Auditions are for ages 8-18 at The Community House, 380 S. Bates, Birmingham, MI 48009.

Since entire audition process is approximately 2-3 hours in length, parents need to wait also. A one-minute monologue (does not have to be memorized) and 16 bars of a favorite song with music (sheet music only) will be required. Please be prepared to list schedule conflicts; wear comfortable shoes.


Rehearsals begin Saturday, August 30. All Saturday, 10AM-1PM and Wednesday, 4:30-6:30PM rehearsals are mandatory, as well as the following dates: week of October 26 through October 31 (dates are subject to change). Performance dates are November 1 and 2.  $175 production fee is payable to The Community House for actors who are selected. Mitch Master, Director; Dan Greig, Music Director.

2008 WORKSHOPS:

Get Into the Act: Summer Theater Camp (Ages 5-7)
DESCRIPTION:

This camp will unleash your child’s imagination through theatre games, music, characterization, crafts, puppetry and more.  Get into the Act is designed to educate, inspire, empower and create.  A performance will be given for family and friends at 2:30 PM during the last session.  Dress for this camp is casual and comfortable.  Please bring a beverage and snack. 

INSTRUCTOR:

Kelly O’Connor-Driscoll, Camp Director, BA, Theater Arts comes from Chicago where she worked with the American Girl Place Theater. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Theatre Management from Wayne State University.

The Community House Summer Theatre Camp
DESCRIPTION:

Junior Division Camp     Grades 3-7 
Be part of a complete musical theater show. All musical theater elements are present: singing, dancing and acting. You are guaranteed at least a few lines in the show and there are advanced opportunities in character parts for the older, advanced or returning students. There are large group and small group scenes and songs. Ensemble work is emphasized. Learn about the theater, how to put a musical together, play games, and basically have a ton of fun! 
2 weeks MON-FRI 9am-3pm $450

Senior Division Camp     Grades 7-12
If you are an actor, singer, or dancer who has attended other camps or has had some previous theater training you will enjoy this camp. It consists of scene study and character analysis as well as theatrical games, historical theater review, technique, style and vocal study. All will have character parts in the scene work. Part of the day improves the actor’s skills and the rest of the day consists of putting together a musical theater revue. The show has act one as scene work and act two is a musical revue.  It is an advanced combination of solo work as well as small group and company numbers. Much fun for all!
2 weeks MON-FRI 9am-4:30pm $500

Camp days will include: Introductions, games, theater terms, history stories;
talent show; audition day; read through and casting; special guest speakers and entertainers; hands-on experience onstage and backstage; food, fun, prizes and surprises including a free t-shirt.

Performance will be held the the Thursday of each camp session.

Registration: A 50% deposit is required.  Final payment is due by May 15th. Receive a 10% discount if paid in full by April 15th.
Before and After Care are available at the additional cost of $6 per hour or $150 flat rate for 2 weeks.

INSTRUCTOR:

Joey Albright, Director/Drama Director, has a BFA in theater.  He has taught many camps and workshops for children and adults alike. He is an associate artist with the prestigious Purple Rose Theater and has worked extensively with Jeff Daniels, co-starring with Jeff in the movie “Escanaba in Da Moonlight.” Joey’s credits include shows at the Gem Theater, the Performance Network in Ann Arbor, and the Jewish Ensemble Theater in Bloomfield. If you’ve been around Detroit’s theater scene, you’ve definitely seen Joey play one of the varied characters of his career. For fifteen years he has taught acting classes to boys and girls from ages 8 to 18. He is excited to be on board for his fifth year at The Community House.
Debbie Tedrick, Music Director, teaches voice, piano and theater. She originated the role of Celeste Romano and was Music Director for Detroit’s "Tony n' Tina's Wedding." She is also a Cabaret performer, producing/directing. Debbie holds a Bachelor of Music degree and Minor in Theater from California State University, Los Angeles; Master of Music Education degree from University of Michigan; Master of Musical Theater degree from the University of Central Florida, Orlando Conservatory Theater. She has directed summer camps for 20 years and is happy to be returning to TCH for her sixth year.

Katie Fried, Assistant Director, has a bachelor degree in elementary education from Oakland University. Katie is an avid thespian who grew up performing in various shows across the Metro Detroit area. She has taught music theater programs at summer camps for ten years, working at The Community House and other locations.
