Auditions: January 6 - 8, 2009 from 6 pm - 9 pm at Matrix Theatre Company, 2730 Bagley Street, Detroit, MI 48216

DETROIT, MI JANUARY 6 – 8:  Matrix Theatre Company is holding auditions for their spring show, Decide Tonight, their new original play, at Matrix Theatre (2730 Bagley Street, Detroit, MI 48216) on January 6 – 7 from 6 pm – 8 pm with call backs on January 8 from 6 pm – 8 pm.


All performers are asked to prepare a one minute monologue, and will be asked to read from the script.

This is a non-equity production.  All roles will receive performance stipends. 
Rehearsals will take place at Matrix Theatre Company, with performances at the Downtown YMCA Boll Family Theatre in March of 2009.

Cast of characters:
Fatima: Young, female newly minted social worker 1/2 Syrian by ethnicity, wears a hijab as a political/cultural statement

Oliver: Retired, heavy set African American: sees himself as important community member, self focused and self conscious

Florence: Older woman, in wheelchair, hardnosed and hard headed, fully aware of the way life can be rough

Clarisse: Teenaged granddaughter of Florence, athletic, sensitive, cognitively impaired, empathetic, bothered by hubbub, underdeveloped

Marsha: Over worked, over stressed mother of autistic son who works as parent advocate and as teaching artist

Charlie: 40 something African American male who has been blind since birth, is wary, careful, somewhat sarcastic and untrusting

Will: late 30's African American, upper middle class recovering drug addict...fair, respectful, self deprecating

Sylvia: late 40's African American, bitter, sarcastic, hypersensitive social worker in Will's residential living facility

Dorothy: Older, super shy and retiring African American woman, dominated wife of Oliver, inner strength and self direction

Cole: Young, barely verbal European American male, runaway, traumatized, finds solace and escape in drumming

Sabrina: Young European American female, angry, destructive, protective of Cole, raised in a comfortable but neglectful home

Marvin: late 40's Polish immigrant with strong Catholic beliefs, rather xenophobic and unconsciously white supremacist, with a powerful need to serve

Stanley: age indeterminate, security guard/greeter at Neighborhood Resources, rather rude in a cajoling and humorous fashion, knows everyone
